Tough week

Friday : 30 Mar '07 - 09:13 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Somehow this has been an exhausting week. We had a workshop with a colleague from the USA during the whole week and we managed to do lots and lots of technical and political stuff. But it costed... now I'm really looking forward to the weekend, to enjoy some time off.

Unfortunately there is one thing I have to do before, because my car is broken again. This time it is the exhaust which thinks it should sound like a Porsche. So I will drive by the car repair shop this afternoon and ask what they will charge me. I also found these exhaust on ebay, but somehow I'm not too sure about that. This would mean I would buy the thing on ebay and then have some small local shop put it in for me.... hmmmm....

Format my mobile phone

Tuesday : 27 Mar '07 - 11:41 | damen default Only one comment | Wikipedia

Today I searched the web to find a way to format my mobile phone, because I have a Nokia e60 with my personal number that Manu will use in the future. So to start with a clean phone I wanted to delete all settings, phone books, etc.

So I found this way. Just shut off the phone, and while turning it on again press the buttons 3, * and the green buttons at the same time (it takes three hands ;-))

Problems of the modern man

Sunday : 25 Mar '07 - 14:37 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

I'm having one of those interesting problems again. Since a while I'm using office 2007 at work, as one of the early adopters .. (knowing where to get it is worth a lot with our company :-) Good contacts rule!). One of the things they finally did was adding the strikethrough button to the menu as default in Word. Now the thing is that I want to have this in excel too, but somehow I cannot find a way to add buttons to the Ribbon.

If you have an idea, please let me know!

update: At least I found the shortcut key "CTRL + 5"
I also found some information on http://pschmid.net/blog/2007/01/28/98 which is definitely saying it is not that easy anymore :-(

I just discovered that I still had some webpages of the time I've done my internship in Beijing, China. So if you're interested in some provocing photos, they can be found here:

Furthermore I found the Koffiepage... this one is very old, I think it was one of the first pages I put online, so don't be suprised by the quality :-)

Servernation

Wednesday : 21 Mar '07 - 07:22 | damen default two comments, already | Wikipedia

Picture for my diving club

Monday : 19 Mar '07 - 19:55 | damen default Only one comment | Wikipedia

As you probably know I have spend lots of my Saturdays in the local swimming pool with our diving club because we are teaching kids to dive. They start at the age of 8 with the first diving certificate, the second at the age of 10 and the final one at the age of 12. So one of us asked me to make something nice to get more kids interested for our diving courses. So I made the following:

Seamour the Sheep

As some people know I like sheep. Not in the sense some of you are currently thinking, I had nothing to do with those inflatable sheeps and that was Coen's student house, as you remember ;-)

So today I found this site with Seamour the Sheep cartoons, very nice:

Sync Ipod with Windows media player

Saturday : 17 Mar '07 - 13:38 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

I just got a link to this program from a colleque, which allows you to sync your iPod with Windows media player. This is very interesting for me, because somehow I just do not like iTunes... probably something to do with ruining my whole music collection about half a year ago :-(

Now the only thing I need to find is a plugin for media player that allows me to easily sync with podcasts... if I find that it is bye bye iTunes.

He!

Friday : 16 Mar '07 - 15:54 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Nou, nieuwsgierig waren we!

Bedankt jongen! Voor je "He!"-geroep.

Stuttgart.... uhm... Nürnberg!

Thursday : 15 Mar '07 - 16:42 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Het ging zo te horen over de veiligheidsinstructies: "No, just do them in English only. I think we have only one Dutch aboard."

Please fasten your..." enzovoort.

Heerlijk!

KLM bedankt!

The holy land

The Loving Husband...

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem. While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150." The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home.

The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $150?"

The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance."

More dry suit issues

Tuesday : 06 Mar '07 - 21:31 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

The topic of getting a good drysuit is still on my mind. Last friday mylocal diving shop called and the owner said he had an interesting offer for me, a drysuit for an interesting price.

So I went over and he showed me this drysuit. TheNorthern Diver CNX FE (Frontzip) , which is a 2,5mm crash neoprene suit.

The price was very reasonable, so I was fully interested untill my dad send me a link to Lucas Diveshop in Holland, which offered the Bare CD4 Pro Dry for only 700€.

So now I'm really not sure which one I want to take (yeah, the decision to buy one is already made :-))

Apnoe experiences

Monday : 05 Mar '07 - 08:04 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

So, I've made it through the weekend. Everything went as planned, except for the concert of Juli, because somehow our friend lost the tickets... nothing you can do about the, right? Anyway, I did not think that was really too bad, because after spending the whole weekend doing freediving exercises I was quite exhausted.

So, about the weekend, it was really great. It was a mix of theory about freediving, which was not really new for me, and exercises in the swimming pool with the focus on techniques for safety and preparation. Because the pool was only 1m25 deep we did no deep diving of course, but we did dynamic with fins and static apnoe, where the goal is to immerse as long as possible.

Ok, now what did I succeed? Even though I have not been training for a long time due to my back problems I managed to do, to get a grasp of what is possible the world records in italic behind my numbers:

  • 60 meter in dynamic with fins (223 meter by Tom Sietas)

  • 120 seconds (2min) with static apnoe (9 min 4 seconds by Herbert Nitsch)

Unfortunately on Sunday I really did not have my day, so I was not able to exceed these anymore, but I do have the feeling there is more in there. So I think some specific apnoe training will be on my plan shortly :-)

Apnoe

Friday : 02 Mar '07 - 15:20 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

This weekend I will be visiting a seminar on Apnoe diving, in English better known as freediving. We will have courses on breath control, yoga, techniques to ensure save practices and of course lots of practice.

To do this we will spend the weekend in the Sportschule Oberhaching, which is owned by the Bavarian sports association.

After the seminar, I'm coming home Sunday evening, we will go directly to a concert of the German band Juli.

update: Claudia lost the tickets, so no concert for us :-(

So you can see, a busy weekend :-)
