This evening we (Michael, Claus, Cordula and myself) will go to the Steinbergersee for night diving. Michael still has to do an exam in that and after tonight he will be fully certified night diver Even though the weather is not that good the temperature of the water will probably be ok, so I'm really looking forward to being in the water again.
I just checked his blog and he is quite well prepared... That's the way to do it
Tomorrow I will fly to Budapest to visit the software company who is developing most of our software. The weather is great and we also have the opportunity to see the city, so this is really going to be an interesting trip.
I recently heard about the Windows Home Server project at Microsoft through the Podcast of Scott Hanselman (who btw will be a blue badge... with the job he described he is surely a lucky guy). It all sounds quite interesting, so I went on the web searching for more information...
This is quite a handy tool if you want to quickly get a lot of testing data for application testing and do not want to use real life data (which is prohibited in some countries too).
Not really what we planned, but we managed to buy a lot of stuff this week in the Netherlands.
On Wednesday we drove from Nuernberg to Enschede and visited Joost & Tanja. On the way we also stopped by at the University of Twente to have a look at the new offices of Medimate, the company of my friends Arjen and Steven. In the evening we had a nice grill party where also Saron and Steven joined us. All together very nice to be in Enschede again and see some of my old friends from the university, since it was quite long ago since I was there last time.
The next morning we drove to Huizen to visit my parents. There we somehow came to a discussion on pillows, because mine is older than myself I guess, and that there was a good shop in town. So we went to this Slaapmaker to pick up one of the better pillows for a night of test sleeping (great service by the way). Next to it was a furniture show which looked as it has a buddah for us (still looking), so we also stopped by there. ..... No Buddah, but two great glass vases which we want to use in our appartment.
Finally we made it to the pillow shop and got one of the pillows that I wanted to try.
Then yesterday we went to the cheese market in Alkmaar where we watched the carriers walk around with the cheese. In one of the narrow alleys around the old market place they had a lot of nice little shops. In one of them we found very nice cows (small ones for on the table) and in another we finally found our buddah. It is a nice wooden one, about 80cm high and very nicely carved.
After that we had the typical dutch lunch and went to the Broeker Veiling, which was very nice. Here we learned about how vegetables were auctioned until the mid 70s and had a nice tour through the protected area of the "thousand islands countryside". We also participated in one of the auctions to get the feeling and bought quite some stuff
So, alltogether we're going home with:
Vases
Pillow
Buddah
Cows
....
Ah ok, about the pillow. I tried the one I got from the shop and also tried the one my father has currently, a Silvana Support Caresse. The latter one was definitely better than the one I got from the shop to try, so I will buy that one. It is a lot of money, but a good night sleep is worth something, isn't it?
Finally we're having a week off, which we plan to spend very well
This weekend we'll be in a small cottage near Amberg, where we enjoy the perfect weather and a nice fire and grill party tonight.
On Monday and Tuesday we'll be here in Nuernberg, using the time to fix some of those things which have been lying around for ages.
Then we'll drive towards the Netherlands on Wednesday, with the current plan to go to Enschede on Wednesday and then towards my parents on Thursday.
On Saturday we'll visit friends in Rotterdam and probably go to Hotel New York to end the day with a BBQ with the family at my aunts place. Then on Sunday it will be back on the road to Germany and on Monday back to work
But the best thing is, I left my Laptop at work..... isn't that amazing... that will definitely help getting more relaxed

Like I said I was on a three day seminar this week, which was very interesting but also very exhausting. The topic was communication and conflict management, which really takes a lot of energy. All together the results were very good, I think we all learned a lot during these three days.
We stayed in the Marriot near Frankfurt airport and it had quite a nice pool and sauna on top of the 12th floor. Just check out the view:
At the end of the seminar our coach said "Well, you probably won't communicate for several weeks now, but that's ok".... and then I realized that on Thursday we had a lessons learned workshop of our project.... ouch! But that was ok, all went well Now it is just the Friday for cleaning up old stuff (mail, tasks etc) and next week I'm on vacation. We probably go to the Netherlands .... if the weather is ok
Yesterday we were at friends for a nice bbq-party and at the end we decided to play a little with the Wii that Lorenz has. This was really great fun, but the best thing about it was looking at people (probably me included) who were behaving strange in front of the beamer
Today we had a typical Friday at work and that means a lot of laughter and bad jokes.
One of them was us talking about room ST, and we have one younger colleague who did not know what it was and was very curious.
So we said, ok, we can tell you, but after that we have to do something terrible to you. Of course we still had no idea what we wanted to do, but suddenly I knew:
I had some interesting problems with Microsoft Office Sharepoint Service 2007 and the office 2007 on my work laptop. Everytime I opened a file on the sharepoint it would crash my internet explorer. After some browsing I found the solution. You can check it out here, it is really a dirty hack
