As usual with this kind of site some background information

Who are you?

We are a family of 3 – Martijn from the Netherlands and Manuela from Germany – both 39 – with our soon six year old daughter Charlotte living in Fürth, in the south of Germany.

Why this trip?

We like Asia, both Martijn and Manu spent some time in China during their studies, and we like to see more of it. But with a kid it changes a lot – no more backpacking in a hurry, doing the whole of Asia in one month on a shoestring. So we decided to take 4 months off from work (we’re lucky to work for a company that offers a sabbatical) and take Charlotte with us.

Charlotte will turn 6 shortly before we leave, a good age to take a lot from the experience and still young enough so we can take the time off without getting into trouble with school.

When are you going?

We’ll fly to Beijing on April 8th 2016 and return back to Germany from Singapore a good 3 months later on July 20th.

Where are you going?

Current plan – 7 weeks through China (see Travel Route) and after that it is open – we only know we have to be in Singapore on July 19th to get the flight back 🙂
